Andrew Brower is Assistant Director of the National Identification Service within the United States Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service. He supervises the national entomological taxonomists, who are responsible for identifying insects intercepted on cargo and goods at US ports of entry. His background is as a molecular systematist of butterflies, with interests in theories of biological systematics and speciation. Brower taught evolution, systematics, and entomology at Oregon State University and Middle Tennessee State University. He was involved in insect collection curation at the Yale Peabody Museum, Harvard Museum of Comparative Zoology, Cornell University Insect Collection, Milwaukee Public Museum, American Museum of Natural History, US National Museum of Natural History, and Oregon State University.
