James Shapiro

James Shapiro is Professor of Microbiology in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Chicago. He received his PhD in Genetics from Cambridge University. After post-doctoral research at Institut Pasteur and Harvard Medical School, Shapiro served as Invited Professor in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Havana, Cuba. He later became Darwin Prize Visiting Professor at the University of Edinburgh. In 2001, he received an OBE for services to the Marshall Scholarship Program.
