Krzysztof Apt

Krzysztof Apt is a Fellow at the Center for Mathematics and Computer Science in Amsterdam and Professor Emeritus at the University of Amsterdam. He earned his PhD in mathematics from the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. Apt has published four books and over 130 articles in computer science, mathematical logic, and, more recently, theoretical economics. Since 2001, he has been involved in a number of open access initiatives aiming at free access to scientific publications.

He largely ignored the work of others and rested on his own ideas, which he typed or handwrote, photocopied, and then mailed to other computer scientists. He was a pioneer and a genius whose work shaped the emerging field of computer science like few others.
