Mike Edmunds is Emeritus Professor of Astrophysics at Cardiff University and former Head of the School of Physics and Astronomy. In his earlier research, he investigated the abundances of the chemical elements in the Universe and the origin of interstellar dust. His later work has been in the history of astronomy, in particular the Antikythera Mechanism and the early history of the Royal Astronomical Society, of which he began a two-year tenure as President in May 2022. He was a member of two United Kingdom Research Councils and is now a Vice-President of the Herschel Society and an Honorary Vice-President of the Society for the History of Astronomy.
