William Press

William Press is the Leslie Surginer Professor of Computer Science and Integrative Biology at the University of Texas at Austin. His previous positions include Deputy Director for Science and Technology at the Los Alamos National Laboratory and Professor of Astronomy and Physics at Harvard University. Press was a member of President Barack Obama’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology and is a past president of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

It concerns the prisoner’s dilemma game, which, played once, involves little strategy. But consider the iterated prisoner’s dilemma (IPD) game. In the IPD, there is information in the previous plays, which each player can use to devise a superior strategy that remains self-interested.
